In 1960, Waidya Shiromani, Justice of the Peace, Dr. PJ Somaratne, started Hela Wedakama, the traditional medicine for all ailments related to Cattarh, in Wanamandawa Main Medical Centre at the Giriulla Puskoladeniya in Dambadeniya historical area.Hela Wedakama in Wanamandawa, based on the “Rajakeeya maha vatha peenas raja thailaya” is the most popular among thousands of local and foreign patients.
In the year 1988, a member of the second generation of Wanamandawa & also his eldest son Dr. Anura Kumara Somarathne initiated the practice of traditional medicine and modern Ayurvedic cultural techniques with the help of Ayurveda. The Ayuvedic medical center and the Ayurvedic drugs manufactory at Wanamandawe were established.
After the death of Dr.P.J.Somarathne in 1994, The Wanamandawe Group Directed by Dr. Anura Kumara Somarathne with his wife Dr. Thusitha Somarathne & brother Mallawarachchi. Mr H.M.P.Hitisekera & Mrs.Dhammika Somarathne joined as the Advisors for the Group of Company.
In 2005, Medicinal plants planting and conservation projects were started at Horagolla and Habarana areas.
Following the sudden demise of Dr. Anura Kumara Somarathne in 2012, Dr. Thusitha Somarathne is the Managing Director and
Mr. Kanishka Bandara Somarathne and Miss Anuradha Somarathne joined as the Co-Directors to the Director Board. Mr. Somarathne Mallawarachchi is the the Genaral Manager of the group of company.
In the year 2019 Dr. Gayesha Sarangi Somaratne established the Wanamandawa Somarathne Wedamadura at Nalle as a subsidiary of the
Wanamandawe Ayurvedic Drugs Manufactory.
In 2020, Wanamandawa Native Ayurvedic Drugs Manufactory was established at Horagolla as the new subsidiary under the Managing
Director of Mr. Somaratne Mallawarachchi.
In the year 2019 Dr. Gayesha Sarangi Somaratne established the Wanamandawa Somaratne Wedamadura at Nalle as a subsidiary of the Wanamandawe Ayurvedic Drugs Manufactory.
In 2020, Wanamandawa Native Ayurvedic Drugs Manufactory was established at Horagolla as the new subsidiary under the Managing Director of Mr. Somaratne Mallawarachchi.
In 2020, Ms.Anuradha Somarathne who is the co-director of Wanamandawe Group, representing the 3rd generation of Wanamandawe family, launched her own luxury Brand Swasti Ayurveda which offers a variety of luxury artisan Ayurveda products handcrafted with extreme attention to detail purely using nature derived infusions. This is based at Wana Niwahana Horagolla Giriulla, as a daughter company of Wanamandawe Ayurveda. Furthermore, Swasti Ayurveda was born inspired by her father Dr. A.K Somarathne, To give life to his visions, belief and trust in Traditional Ayurveda medicine practices where she now follow his footsteps in creating a Ayurveda brand that reaches global markets
